Karnataka ranks second, next only to Rajstahan in India, in terms of total geographical area prone to drought. Among its 27 districts, 18 are drought prone. During the years, 2001-02, 2002-03 and 2003-04 it faced consecutive droughts. A study was conducted in 2004 to assess the consequences of 2002-03 drought in Karnataka with special emphasis on livestock and fodder components.

Amidst the multidimensional problems and issues that dent the livelihoods of farmers in India, mixed cropping comes as a fresh breeze of hope. As the model plays as a risk reduction measure, farmers can rest assured that even in the face of an unforeseen event causing failure of a crop, they can still put a smile on their faces.

The floristic composition of JFM managed forest and adjoining natural scrub forest in Guddada Budihal areas of Gadag Division was studied. The study has inferred the higher species diversity in the JFM managed forests compared to the natural forests.

The species diversity and richness indices in JFM managed and adjacent scrub forests of Doni indicates the success of JFM approach in Karnataka. The Importance Value Index, Shannon and Simpson's diversity indices were analyzed for both JFM managed and adjacent scrub forests.

The present study deals with the physico-chemical parameters of ground water quality in Mundargi taluk of Gadag district, Karnataka state, the study has been carried out during September 2003.
