MUMBAI: The state government on Wednesday has declared drought in 8 talukas from three districts.

Danish Leather without authorization from the Central Ground Water Authority. NGT permits the industry to operate only if it is granted consent from CGWA for groundwater extraction.

The National Green Tribunal has sought a detailed list of various industries of Ghaziabad and Hapur districts on a plea alleging that incessant extraction of groundwater has led to severe depletion

According to it, Pune district had a maximum of 12 villages showing depletion, followed by five villages with a depletion between 1m to 2m in the groundwater levels.

The petitioners in the plea have said that Punjab is deficient of water and even the groundwater stands depleted in at least 14 lakh tube wells.

A bench, headed by acting NGT chairperson justice Jawad Rahim directed the DJB to submit a list of illegal borewells in the capital.

Summers are the peak season for drilling borewells and several illegal companies mushroom to carry on drilling activities.
