To save over 20,000 trees from being axed during construction of three roads, the forest authorities have sought a rethink on the issue so that the green cover can be saved from shrinking further.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has identified 11 stretches in 12 states in the country for setting up high-speed six- to eight-lane expressways in the country in the first phase of its plan. The stretches so far identified add up to a total length of 3,530 km and would be built at a cost exceeding Rs 20,000 crore as per the plan prepared by the ministry.
