Bhubaneswar: Steel and mines minister Raghunath Mohanty on Monday said that it was not possible and desirable on the part of the state government to be in the mining business.

Describing the procedure of fixing the sale value of iron ore by Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) as incorrect, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has requested the Centre to revise the price to match the prevailing market rate.

Controller General CS Gundewar said IBM has constituted task forces to keep tabs on violations by lessees. However, there is nothing that the agency can do about deviations carried out in free areas.
