Two steel giants, ArcelorMittal and POSCO, were granted the green signal on Tuesday, with the High Level Clearance Committee headed by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa according an in-principle approval for implementing their mega steel manufacturing projects.

The total investment from these projects will be Rs 1,38,300 crore.

A recent survey by South Korean company Posco in its proposed mega steel project site in Orissa's Jagatsinghpur district has brought to fore some interesting facts on the socioeconomic conditions of the local people.

At least six workers and two senior officers of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Orissa's Sundergarh district fell ill on Sunday following leakage of toxic gas in one of its blast furnaces.
The affected persons were immediately admitted to the Ispat General Hospital at Rourkela.
