Aug. 10: The state government on Monday differed with the Union law minister, Mr Veerappa Moily, and asserted that Karnataka had constructed illegal irrigation projects across the Krishna River even as the Opposition criticised him.
On a visit to the city on Sunday, Mr Moily had said that projects constructed by Karnataka cannot be termed illegal and parried further questions on the subject.

HYDERABAD: Karnataka has projected an enhanced availability of surplus waters in the Krishna at 517 tmcft (thousand million cubic feet), an increase of 187 tmcft over its earlier estimation of 330 tmcft, and made a strong plea before the Krishna Water Tribunal for a 50 per cent share from this.

Vijayawada, Sept. 9: The Congress government claims to be focused on irrigation projects, but poor water management is compounding the woes of farmers in the Krishna and Godavari delta. Despite the tall claims about irrigation projects, several lakh cusecs of water from Krishna and Godavari rivers is going waste into the sea. At the same time, flooding also occurs, damaging the crops in several hundred acres. The same fields dry up during drought and yearn for water even for a single crop.

Vijayawada, Sept. 5: The department f mines and geology booked 98 cases against illegal transportation of sand during the current financial year. A special check-post was set up at Nandigama to control unauthorised quarrying and stocking of sand in Krishna district, according to assistant director of mines and geology, Mr Srinivas.
