Mumbai Come August, the Powai lake will get another batch of nearly 10,000 chilwa fish, that had disappeared from the lake about a decade ago. The Maharashtra State Angling Association (MSAA), a local caretaking body of the ecology of Powai, introduced nearly 500 fingerlings of the fish into the lake recently.

Ahmedabad: In many ways, for people living in Bapunagar, the new lake at Malek Shaban stadium is a playground lost. Earlier, at least on Sundays, about 2,000 odd youths from the nearby areas, including from Maninagar, used to play cricket here right from six in the morning.
Mumbai Hundreds of residents took to the streets on Friday to clean up the 300-acre periphery of the Powai lake, to rid it of polythene bags and garbage. Citizens also gathered in large numbers at the Panch Kutir Powai lake Ganesh Ghat to ask civic officials why the desilting was not completed before the monsoon.
These days the placid environs of Sukhna lake have been disturbed by the constant sound of an army of earth movers, trucks and tractors plying busily in and out of the dried up bed of the lake. The Regulator End, as it is called, of the lake has been cordoned off for walkers, as tonnes of silt is scooped out from the bed of the lake and then transported out.
The Sukhna lake, created for the pleasure of visitors, is soon turning into a big disappointment. Sand and cement on the pavement welcome visitors to the lake while a section of the promenade has been closed for repair work.

A sewage treatment plant is being planned on the southern side bund of Kanakaneri at Thattanchavady in Puducherry.
PUDUCHERRY: The Kanakaneri, one of the oldest waterbodies in the town, is once again in the news. Environmental activists have come out against the government's decision to establish a sewage treatment plant on Kanakaneri under the Comprehensive Sewerage Scheme.
