Mumbai: Mumbai airport has been a hub of construction activity for the last two years, and it has been a common occurrence that contract workers have unwittingly cut underground electric cables, thereby leading to blackouts on the taxiways.

In spite of frequent power cuts, airport authorities have not thought of having the option of solar lights to guide aircrafts on-ground, so far.

A public hearing today on the 10,000-Mw nuclear power project in coastal Ratnagiri district witnessed loud protests by villagers.

Puneites will have to pay 50 paise more for petrol and Rs 1.20 more for diesel from June 1. The revised prices will be Rs 52.58 a litre for petrol and Rs 41 a litre for diesel, up from Rs 52.08 and Rs 39.80 in place from April 1.

Several states have responded well to the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) initiative to introduce a renewable electricity certificate (REC) mechanism.
