I have reached Cancun few hours’ back to attend the 16th Conference of Parties (CoP-16) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and have been greeted with news that can only be characterised as bad or worse.

International Finance Corporation (IFC), a subsidiary of World Bank, has pledged assistance to Waste Management Corporation (WMC) to eliminate waste collected across the country.

The Government has planned to remove the import duty on diesel, medical supplies and some essential food items from next year onwards, President Mohamed Nasheed has said.

The price of petrol, diesel and kerosene was reduced by Rf2.40, Rf2.00 and Rf2.80 respectively on Monday. The changes brought to the fuel prices mean that the price of petrol litre has now been reduced to Rf8.50, diesel to Rf8.75 and kerosene to Rf8.90.

This is the ninth time since 12 August that the State Trading Organization (STO) has reduced fuel prices.

State Trading Organization (STO) has decreased the price of diesel and kerosene by Rf0.50 and petrol by Rf0.25 as of Sunday.
