TAMLUK: As the mercury level continues to rise and an unbearable heat wave continues to sweep across Midnapore East district, health department officials have come up with tips to help people deal with the rough weather.

Tamluk, March 28: Farmers in East Midnapore have refused to give land for power substations needed to electrify about 2,800 villages, demanding more than double the price being offered in some places.
Among the seven substations planned in East Midnapore, one is in Nandigram.
The state panchayat and rural development minister, Mr Anisur Rehaman today claimed in the Assembly that the panchayats in the Maoist-dominated areas of West Midnapore performed better in creating work under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme than the Trinamul-controlled panchayats in South 24 Parganas.
The Centre has promised Rs 5,032 crore to repair Aila-damaged embankments and Rs 530 crore for flood control in East and West Midnapore, a team of Bengal MLAs said after meetings here today.
The state land and land reforms minister, Mr Abdur Rezzak Mollah has asked his department to put all land acquisition work on hold due to lack of manpower.
Despite the intervention of the chief minister, the department is yet to get replacements after several officials retired and their posts fell vacant.
