Rural development minister C.P. Joshi has blamed the states for not following the spirit of the ambitious National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) in its spirit.

"The states are not following the act in its spirit which gives the poor right to demand at least 100 days work from the government.

July 1: If the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) earned political benefits for the Congress in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, its government in Assam was at the receiving end for alleged rampant corruption in implementing the act in the state.
