Rotary International (RI) has blamed government agencies concerned with vaccination efforts responsible for the failure to eradicate polio from the country, despite funding of $26 million in Pakistan by the agency and the United Nations to make the worldwide anti-polio drive successful, Daily Times was told on Sunday.

Following reports on polio detection cases in Morigaon district, the Barpeta District Health Society has geared up immunisation activities to make the district polio-free.

The Gulshan Town administration will launch a two-day anti-polio drive from July 28.

This was decided in a meeting presided over by TMO Shafiqur Rahman on Thursday. THO Dr Imdad, WHO representatives Dr Navid and Miss Erica, Unicef representatives Amir and Dr Shabbir, TFP Dr Abdul Malik and UC nazims attended the meeting.

The meeting decided to set up control rooms in all the UC offices. The TMO appealed to the parents to ensure administering of anti-polio drops to their children.

The state health department has decided to award a trophy to the police recruits of the IRB, Bhondsi, in recognition of their contribution to administering polio drops to kids during the pulse polio rounds in Gurgaon district, besides learning effective policing techniques.
