New Delhi The final draft of the proposed food security Bill approved by the finance and food ministries has a provision for creation of a national food security commission for implementation of the mega scheme that aims at providing subsidised grains to close to two-third of the country

New Delhi In order to avoid imports of grain for implementing the proposed food security Bill in years when monsoon fails, the government will include a provision in the Bill to allow beneficiaries to get cash instead of grain.

According to sources, the requirement of grain for the proposed food security cover would be 60 million tonne (mt), which is less than a third of the total production.

This National Food Security Bill, 2011 has been approved by Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council and sent to the government. It seeks legal food entitlements to 90 per cent rural and 50 per cent urban households.

According to the National Family Health Survey 3, around 21% men were anaemic in 2005-06.

Minister assures steps to boost output at Bamini fertilizer plant
THANJAVUR: Minister for Cooperation Sellur K.Raju has said Rs.277 crore will be disbursed as crop loans by cooperative banks in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts this year.

Till June 25, Rs.22.49 crore has been disbursed, the Minister said, at a review meeting held here on Sunday.
