BHUBANESWAR: As threat increases to coastal regions with climate change, the State Government has moved towards creation of a directorate to combat the looming danger.

This, probably, is for the first time that a State has planned a dedicated wing - Coastal Erosion Protection Directorate - to meet the challenges of coastal erosion which, lately, has dealt a body blow to the shoreline along many stretches.

Both states are ready to distribute smart cards to ensure transparency in the disbursal of social security pension and payment of wages under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme.

BHUBANESWAR: An Assembly Standing Committee has pulled up the Rural Development Department for delay in the implementation of drinking water project in Sakhigopal and Kanas region of Puri district as a result of which people of the area are living without potable water for years.

The panel members headed by chairman Narasingh Mishra visited the area recently to make an on the spot verification of the project implemented under the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) to supply pipe water to the people.
