No batch of yatris was allowed today to proceed to the Amarnath shrine cave either from Pahalgam or Baltal base camps due to inclement weather, a Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board official said.

Rain and over 3 inches snow fall in Sheshnag, Mahagunas Top and the holy cave areas and consequently, the slippery condition of the tracks caused the suspension of the yatra.

Irrespective of the fact that the monsoon has covered most parts of the country, the next fortnight is going to be crucial for the kharif crop. Concerns over the crop size have still not receded as rain has been deficient till now.

After a hiatus of more than two weeks over parts of central and east India, Met office today said elusive monsoon rains were now covering the entire country.

Palampur: Palampur and its adjoining areas like Maranda, Gopalpur, Nagri, Chamunda and Bundla were lashed by heavy rain accompanied by hailstorm and high-velocity wind, causing widespread damage to the fruit crop. Many parts of the town were flooded with rainwater.
