Rivulets and rivers in Kodagu emerged in full spate on Thursday too owing to heavy rains. The district administration has extended holidays for schools for two more days, on Friday and Saturday (July 10 and 11).

July 9: Deficit rainfall in catchment areas of rivers Krishna and Godavari in Maharashtra and Karnataka has drastically shrunk water levels in major reservoirs in the state.
The situation has worsened due to construction of barrages across the two major lifelines to the state.

July 9: Concerned over a weak monsoon system, which has eluded north-west India affecting sowing of kharif crops, the agriculture ministry is still not terming it as a drought-like situation.
