Question raised in Lok Sabha Electrification of Villages, 11/08/2016. As per census 2011, there were 16,78,26,730 rural households in the country. Out of which 9,28,08,038 households were having electricity and remaining 7,50,18,692 households were un-electrified. State-wise details of rural and urban area households are given at Annexure. Since 2012-13, free electricity connections to 53,26,016 Below Poverty Line ( BPL) households have been released as on 30.06.2016.

In India, Prime Minister Modi has set an ambitious target of installing 100 GW (100,000 MW) of solar power capacity by 2022. The current solar capacity in India stands at 8 GW as on July end, 2016. Thus, the target of moving from 8 GW in July 2016 to 100 GW by 2022, is one of the most ambitious targets globally.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Electrification of Villages, 04/08/2016. Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) was launched in December, 2014. As reported by the States, 9,481 un-electrified villages have been electrified under DDUGJY including Rural Electrification component. The State-wise details are given at Annexure-I. As reported by the States, there were 18,452 un-electrified census villages in the country, as on 01.04.2015. Out of these villages, 9,126 un-electrified villages are yet to be electrified as on 31.07.2016. The details are given at Annexure-II.

The Northeast region of the country has a total installed capacity of 3,550.02 mega-watts (MW) for electricity generation. Fossil fuels—gas, coal and diesel—capacity combined contributes to 57.6 per cent of the installed capacity.
