Alerted by the spread of swine flu in neighbouring country, Meghalaya Government has set up a screening post at international land crossing along Bangladesh border to check travellers.

The North East is staring at a probable drought this year as temperature remains high with a severe deficit of rainfall.

Known to experience early and flash floods, the region this time has received scanty rainfall compared to other States of the country, with Meghalaya recording the highest deficit of 75 per cent in the period between May 25 and June 19.

Shillong: A moderate earthquake rattled the Meghalaya Capital on Tuesday morning, Met official said.

The epicentre of the quake, measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale, was located about 13 km away from the Central Seismological Observatory in Upper Shillong here, the Met department said.

There was no report of any damage and casualty. The tremor was felt at around 7.47 am.
