One person has died of rat fever in Shimoga district.

The deceased, Bhavani Rao (52), of Kanoor Kadekeri, suffering from high fever since July 19, was admitted to the Government Hospital, here.

A blood sample was taken from him, as the fever did not subside even after three days.

Over 70 lakes in Mandya, Shimoga and Hassan districts have been encroached upon by the land sharks. Several of these lakes have reportedly been encroached upon by local cartels and powerful individuals.
