Mumbai: Malaria is likely to become more virulent, fear international experts after they found the parasite becoming resistant to the most effective drug used worldwide to treat it. If not controlled in time, it could kill millions, they warn.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Thursday held a meeting of all its councillors and health officers to discuss steps to be taken in order to check the dengue menace this season.

Senior doctors in the U.K. recently published a report warning that climate change is the biggest threat to global health of the 21st century. Rising global temperatures would have a catastrophic effect on human health, the doctors said, and patterns of infection would change, with insect-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue fever spreading more easily.

Mumbai:(PTI) Malaria-related cases in the metropolis have shot up by as much as 47 per cent this year due to increased construction activities and high humidity levels.

Mohali: As many as 118 teams would be operating in various parts of Mohali district during a campaign being launched by the health department to create awareness among people about dengue, malaria and other water-borne diseases.

These teams would be covering all villages of the district in June, which is being observed as an anti-malaria month by the department.

The people should maintain cleanliness in their surrounding areas and prevent stagnation of water in public places, suggested Zilla Panchayat President Srinivasulu.

Prevention better

Jamshedpur, May 24: The malaria prevention programme in East Singhbhum has hit twin hurdles.

With the monsoon nearly here, the district has failed to start spraying DDT and has run short of malaria medicines. Officials in the district health department maintain that the prevention programme should have begun by now. The district happens to be malaria-prone zone.

Senior doctors of BJP Dr. KK Khare and Dr. Arun Batra have termed the pilot project for Malaria Eradication as an important work plan of the state government. Through this the government plans to eradicate Malaria by prevention instead of curing. A large number of people die due to Malaria every year.

Siliguri, May 21: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to strengthen its drive against mosquitoes and formed a committee that will inspect all under-construction buildings to find if the sites are waterlogged.

PREVENTIVE MEASURE: The Coimbatore Corporation wants people in the city to allow its workers to pour larvicide in tanks to prevent mosquito breeding.
