The Department of Urban Development, Goa on 19th May 2022, has published the Model Goa Municipal Plastic Waste Management Byelaws, 2022 which shall apply to every waste generator, manufacturer, producer, importer and brand owner operating within the jurisdiction of the council in the State of Goa.

A study published by the Housing and Urban Development Ministry has stated that a large amount of municipal waste can be prevented from being dumped in landfills by recycling them and that a complete ban on the disposal of recyclables at such sites can be avoided, and in doing so will be able to produce Rs 30,000 crore per annum.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Residents of Village Adampur, PO Masodi Khera, District Dholpur Vs State of Rajasthan dated 12/05/2022.

The issue taken up for consideration related to remedial action against illegal dumping of solid waste in village Adampur, tehsil Wadim, district Dholpur, Rajasthan affecting the Ramsagar pond and the soil of the area but later the scope of the proceedings was extended to managing solid waste throughout the state.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Jagdish Kumar Vs State of Haryana dated 09/05/2022.

The issue for consideration initially taken up was the remedial action for restoration of the site where garbage was unscientifically dumped at Gohana, district Sonepat, Haryana. However, in the light of earlier proceedings, the Tribunal took up for consideration the steps for compliance of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 in the entire state since timelines given for various steps under the Solid Waste Management Rules had expired.

To encourage use of alternatives of plastics, government think-tank NITI Aayog has suggested strengthening waste minimisation through extended producer responsibility, proper labelling and collection of compostable and biodegradable plastics.

Quarterly progress report (Jan-Mar 2022) in compliance of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order, March 7, 2019 in Original Application No. 606/2018.

The NGT had directed states to submit information on the following areas: compliance to solid waste rules including legacy waste; compliance to bio-medical waste rules; compliance to construction and demolition waste; compliance to hazardous waste rules; compliance to E-waste rules; 351 polluter stretches in the country; 122 non-attainment cities; 100 industrial clusters; status of STPs and re-use of treated water among others.

Plastic waste management and recycling activities have the potential to reduce the environmental impacts of plastic production and to tap the economic value of would-be waste materials through circular economy approaches.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Central Zone Bench, Bhopal) in the matter of Puneet Jain Vs Madhya Pradesh State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) dated 05/04/2022.

The application was filed in the NGT, challenging the order passed by the Madhya Pradesh State Environment Assessment Authority (MPSEIAA), January 27, 2021 - whereby environmental clearance was accorded for a Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facility (CBWTF), Sanwer Road Industrial Area, Indore.

Report of the Oversight Committee in the matter of Original Application No. 909/2018 in Re: Confederation of Trans Hindan RWA's Ghaziabad Vs Uttar Pradesh State Pollution Control Board & Others dated 21/02/2022.

The application was filed by the Resident Welfare Association for the non-compliance of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 as door to door collection of garbage was not being done from Indirapuram, Vasundhara and Vaishali. The untreated waste was being dumped at Shakti Khand, Indirapuram.
