A study published by the Housing and Urban Development Ministry has stated that a large amount of municipal waste can be prevented from being dumped in landfills by recycling them and that a complete ban on the disposal of recyclables at such sites can be avoided, and in doing so will be able to produce Rs 30,000 crore per annum.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on July 8, 2021 has issued the Union Territory of Ladakh Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Rules, 2021.

The Municipal Performance Index (MPI) was launched as an accompaniment to the Ease of Living Index. It seeks to examine local government practice in municipalities across areas of services, finance, policy, technology and governance.

The rankings under Ease of Living Index 2020 were announced for cities with a population of more than a million, and cities with less than a million people. 111 cities participated in the assessment exercise that was conducted in 2020.

Government of India as well State Governments, hitherto had been encouraging cities to prepare conventional sewage management plans comprising of sewer networks and sewage treatment plants, on whole city basis. This process although tested and robust but is cost and time intensive.

Ease of Living Index aimed at providing a holistic view of Indian cities - beginning from the services provided by local bodies, the effectiveness of the administration, the outcomes generated through these services in terms of the liveability within cities, and, finally, the citizen perception of these outcomes.

In this latest Swachh Survekshan list, Indore was declared the cleanest city of India for the third consecutive year. Ambikapur of Chhatisgarh came second in the ranking, followed by Mysuru, Ujjain and New Delhi.

This is a compilation of data on various indicators of Urban India such as Demography, Employment, Transportation, Sanitation, Housing, Socio-economic Indicators and Public Expenditure on Urban Development. It also provides information the flagship schemes of the Ministry of Urban Development like Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), National Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY), Smart City Mission (SCM) and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).

The Urban Affairs Ministry has made amendments to the Model Building Byelaws (MBBL) 2016 and Urban Regional Development Plans Formulation and Implementation (URDPFI) Guidelines 2014, making provisions for establishing EV charging infrastructure. According to this, public charging station should be on both sides of the highways or roads on every 25 km.
