Mumbai: Hardly had citizens got over the swine flu, malaria, gastroenteritis, and jaundice when cholera has caught certain areas of Mumbai in its grip.

As many as 12 patients, all residents of Carvel Street, Ramwadi, Kalbadevi, were admitted to hospital with symptoms of cholera. Eleven of them were admitted to Kasturba Hospital and one to Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital on Wednesday evening.

Sept. 8: After the swine flu havoc, cases of cholera, jaundice, malaria and dengue are on the rise. A confirmed case of chikungunya has also been reported in the city.
In all, 72 cases of cholera have been recorded in the city till September 7 compared to 64 in 2008 and 36 in 2007. Likewise, 45 cases of jaundice and 16 cases of dengue have also been reported.

BHUBANESWAR: Even as the State Government claimed to have controlled diarrhoea in Kalahandi where the disease has claimed 27 lives in three blocks, reports of more deaths from Bargarh district has put the administration in a tizzy.

The Orissa government has resorted to announcing cash incentives for bringing cholera patients in Kalahandi to hospital as its declaration of a cholera outbreak in the district has failed to bring about the same. With 26 people dying of diarrhoea in the last month in the district, the state government has now announced cash awards for those bringing the patients along with the patients.

Aug. 31: A team of medical experts from the Centre on Monday arrived at Bhawanipatna in the poverty-stricken district of Kalahandi in Orissa to take stock of the situation after an outbreak of diarrhoea which killed 24 people in the region over the past one month.

The health officer of Madarihat block along with two officials have visited tea gardens where workers have developed symptoms like vomiting, fever and headache. In the past 72 hours, 39 people have been hospitalised.

BHUBANESWAR: As reports of more diarrhoea deaths trickle out of Kalahandi district, 38 till date, a Central team is arriving on Monday to take stock of the situation.

Hyderabad, Aug. 28: The government has started distributing free chlorine tablets to residents, keeping in mind the increase in number of jaundice cases in the city.

According to the district medical and health Officer, Dr Ch Jayakumari, jaundice cases have been on the rise since January this year.
