KOLLAM: The 40-year-old tusker Gopalakrishnan of Asramam Sree Krishnaswamy Temple here, sustained serious injuries when a sand-laden lorry knocked it down in the wee hours of Tuesday. The tusker suffered fractures on both its hind legs.
Siliguri, March 23: Baikunthapur forest division will increase its fringe area by 50 hectare this year in an effort to prevent man-animal conflict in the villages located on the outskirts.
The foresters have also sent a project report, Integrated Development of Wildlife Habitat, to the state forest department, comprising various measures for the overall development of the division.

Three injured after being attacked by the big cat; zoo staff to the rescue

Guwahati: A full grown leopard that strayed out of the nearby forest and entered Jyotikuchi, a residential area here, was rescued by Assam State Zoo staff after tranquillising it at the spot.
Over a fortnight after a wild elephant created havoc on villagers and killed four persons, the State Forest Department has swung into action and deployed a special squad to hunt the animal. In last two weeks, the elephant has killed four persons, including a pregnant woman and an old woman in the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.
