The National Green Tribunal Act 2010 approved by the President of India on June 2, 2010. It provides for establishment of National Green Tribunal- a special fast-track court for speedy disposal of environment-related civil cases.
New Delhi: The long-pending National Green Tribunal (NGT) Bill was passed in Lok Sabha after environment minister Jairam Ramesh accepted some key amendments to the proposed legislation that parliamentarians cutting across party lines had suggested.
A National Green Tribunal that would have special courts to try cases related to environment and forest, would be set up once Parliament gives its nod, Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said on Friday.
After receiving several national level institutes, the city of lakes will now have the National Green Tribunal, which would be the judicial authority to deal with environmental related damages. The tribunal will be located at IIFM Bhopal.
The National Green Tribunal Bill was considered by the Department Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Forests following which they made certain recommendations in their report dated 24th November 2009. NEW DELHI: The Cabinet on Thursday cleared the National Green Tribunal Bill paving the way for setting up a National Green Tribunal to settle civil disputes concerning environment-related issues.
