National Green Tribunal Hauls Up Industries For Not Having Proper Pollution Control Systems

Noida: A six-member expert committee constituted by National Green Tribunal to determine ‘sources’ and ‘extent’ of pollution in Noida has taken cognizance of diesel generators operating in large numbers, due to lack of adequate power, for causing sound and air pollution. The committee, in its report submitted to the tribunal on Tuesday, has also held inoperative traffic signals and lack of traffic management responsible for causing vehicular jams which lead to air pollution.

Sets up a three-member panel to monitor execution of the order

The National Green Tribunal has through a recent order banned construction of roads and cutting of trees in the Aravallis directing the parties concerned to restore the area to its original condition. The Tribunal also set up a three-member committee to monitor the execution of the order. The order came on Badshahpur resident Devendra Kumar’s plea on violation of provisions of the notification issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forests on May 7, 1992 that prohibited certain activities in the Aravalli Hills in Gurgaon.

THE National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) to make certain it uploads on its website all orders on granting environment clearances within seven days of approval, enabling public to be aware of such orders and raise appropriate objections timely.

The tribunal, led by Justice Swatanter Kumar, reminded the ministry that it was not just an administrative duty but a "statutory obligation of the MoEF" to put such orders in the public domain so that people are made sentient of the approvals as well as conditions and safeguards to be followed by the project proponent i.e the entity receiving the clearance".

Relief for Pallavaram Municipality

The Pallavaram Muncipality got some relief from the National Green Tribunal, Southern Bench, on Thursday on the issue of dumping garbage. The Tribunal directed the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) to make a spot inspection on the new site at Venkatamangalam mooted by the municipality and to accord ‘consent to establish’ without further delay.

New Delhi: Taking cognizance of TOI reports on the illegal construction of three roads inside the Rajokri Forest, an application has been filed with National Green Tribunal (NGT). The environment watchdog has now sent notices to the Delhi government and other agencies concerned.

Amicus curiae Raj Panjwani said, “The ridge area is being used for several non-forest purposes without any prior permission of the central government which is a clear violation of the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980, and orders of the Supreme Court.”

The company's order for forest clearance to transport around 1.6 lakh tonnes of bauxite mined from Kolhapur district

The National Green Tribunal has dismissed Hindalco's plea challenging the Maharashtra government's refusal to grant it three more months, after expiry of its forest clearance, to transport around 1.6 lakh tonnes of bauxite mined from Kolhapur district. A bench headed by Justice V R Kingaonkar also declined to direct the state government to forward the company's proposal, for more time, to the Centre for grant of approval.

Seize vehicles carrying it there, Green Tribunal directs Delhi authorities including DDA, DMRC and CPWD

The National Green Tribunal has reiterated its direction to authorities to ensure that no debris of any kind, including from construction, is thrown on the banks of the Yamuna. A Bench also directed the public authorities to get the debris removed and to maintain proper log/records. “All Municipal Corporations, the Delhi Development Authority, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the Central Public Works Department and other authorities shall duly act upon this order.”
