Ltd. vs. State of MP & Ors. dated 30/01/2017 regarding illegal in stream sand mining being carried out in river Narmada by use of boats between village Chipaner to Chorsakheda, Sehore District, Madhya Pradesh. NGT directs the District Collector (Mines) and the Superintendant of Police, Sehore to take immediate action for impounding the boats and submit a list of persons involved in the aforesaid activity.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Ananta Kumar Das Vs State of Odisha & Others dated 03/01/2017 regarding sand mining in Baitarani river near Sanala village, Jajpur District, Odisha. NGT in its Order makes it clear that the mining based on the EC shall be done only manually and no mechanical mining shall be permitted.

The government has notified the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification, 2006, as amended from time to time, under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 which deals with the process of granting Environmental Clearance.
