Mountainous areas in the northern Pakistan are blessed by numerous rivers that have great potential in water resources and hydropower production. Many of these rivers are unexploited for their water resource potential. If the potential of these rivers are explored, hydropower production and water supplies in these areas may be improved. The Indus is the main river originating from mountainous area of the Himalayas of Baltistan, Pakistan in which most of the smaller streams drain.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior Senator Talha Mehmood has said that substandard drugs at the camps of internally displaced persons (IDPs) may add to the sufferings of ailing individuals, and urged the authorities to intensify inspection of drugs being distributed at these camps.

Speakers at a seminar said that India is plugging rivers sources for waging invisible aggression against Pakistan with the aim to dent the irrigated agriculture putting at risk food security. Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) organised the seminar on Water Disputes and Pak-India Relations here on Thursday.

State Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar on Saturday said that the government is considering to abolish carbon surcharge levied on kerosene oil and diesel in the recent budget. Briefing Senators in the upper house, she said that members from both Senate and National Assembly have expressed serious concern over the issue.
