The report is based on ‘Drinking Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Housing Condition’ survey of NSS 76th round conducted during July - December 2018.

Environmental Accounting for a mega-diverse country like India is packed with challenges – from requirements of huge datasets and several microscopic studies to synchronising all of these so that they speak to each other and can yield consistent estimates. An implementation plan for environment accounting was drawn by the Expert Group on “Green National Accounts in India”, constituted under the Chairmanship of Prof. Sir Partha Dasgupta.

This issue of National Accounts Statistics (NAS), presents the estimates of macro-economic aggregates along with detailed disaggregated statements and institutional sector accounts for the years from 2011-12 to 2017-18 with 2011-12 as base year. Besides these estimates, this publication also includes provisional estimates of National Income for the year 2018-19 and quarterly estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the years from 2011-12 to 2018-19.

Agriculture and allied sectors (i.e. crops, livestock, forestry and logging, fishing and aquaculture) play a vital role in Indian economy. It contributes around 18% of the country's Gross Value Added at basic prices and employs nearly half of the workforce.

The annual report (July 2017-June 2018) of the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) pegs the all India unemployment rate at 6.1 per cent in the given year. Unemployment was higher in the urban areas as compared to the rural. For the rural areas, the unemployment rate was 5.3 per cent, while in the urban areas it was 7.8 per cent.

The statistics represent information about the reserves, installed capacity, potential for generation, production, consumption, import, export and wholesale price of different energy commodities and Energy Indicators on Economic Dimension.

In this edition of EnviStats India, 2019, Vol. I: Environment Statistics, updated information at more disaggregated levels have been provided for the indicators, so that the areas warranting focused interventions could be identified for guiding prognosis and evaluation.

The publication ‘Children in India 2018 – A Statistical Appraisal’, presents and analyses the statistics on the conditions of children on broad indicators such as child survival, child development and child protection, etc. covering demographic particulars such as status of child nutrition, health and education, children at work and in situations of crime, etc. The publication also provides useful information on Constitutional and legal provisions for children and important child oriented policies and programmes.
