Nitrate has become of the key environmental issues because of its implications on human and animal health. Nitrate enters in the human body through the use of ground water for drinking and causes number of health disorders. In Rajasthan, ground waters of Nagaur, Barmer, Bikaner, Churu, Ganganagar, Hanumangarh and Jhunjhunu districts were enriched with high nitrate.
FLOOD-LIKE situation prevails in the droughtprone Jaislamer district of Rajasthan as torrential rains hit the region badly. The entire western Rajasthan is badly affected by the spell of heavy rains due to Phet and upper cyclonic circulation. Jaisalmer received over 12 cm rains followed by Jodhpur and Barmer which received 3 cm and 2 cm respectively.
There is not a single house in the village which has not sent its girls to study in schools
Though girls are often asked to stay home instead of enrolling in school, a village called Dungero Ki Tala in the border district of Barmer has shown the way for other villages. The village slaps a fine if someone does not send their daughter to school.
Rajasthan Government has sought Rs 12,700 crore from the Central to deal with acute drought situation in the State. According to official sources, a detailed memorandum has been sent to the Centre seeking additional funds from Natural Calamity Fund. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot would soon go to Delhi to meet the concerned Ministers to get the funds at the earliest.
The Rajasthan Government has sanctioned Rs.88 crore for a new lift scheme to supply drinking water to rural areas in the desert districts of Jaisalmer and Barmer. The lift scheme will carry waters from the Indira Gandhi Canal to 177 villages in Jaisalmer district and 403 in Barmer.The scheme, originating at Pokhran, would get 90 cusecs of water from the canal head in Nachna. A pumping station at Tota village will lift the water and it will flow ahead by natural gravity. According to an official release here, the scheme's route has been set through Phalsoond and Balotra to reach Siwana.
