INDORE: Despite government incentives, concept of green buildings has failed to catch fancy of real estate developers in Madhya Pradesh. This is much in contrast to booming real estate markets like Gurgaon (Haryana), Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad where 'green' is the in-thing.

10% Lower Requirements For Buildings Beside BRTS, Metro Routes

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) has relaxed parking requirements for commercial buildings along transit corridors of the city by 10%. Principally, these are along the BRTS and metro corridors. Auda claims that it would boost the commercial and corporate offices coming up along the corridors. Developers along the corridor also get the maximum permissible FSI — 4.

The government will examine the need for further changes to the Kerala Municipal Building Rules to address any shortcomings, Minister for Urban Affairs Manjalamkuzhi Ali has said.

Replying to a submission moved by V.S. Achuthanandan in the Assembly on Wednesday, he said the rules had been amended to ensure transparency, eliminate malpractices in the real estate sector and minimise the scope for violation of environmental laws.

Cabinet panel to frame rules

The government has, in principle, decided to make rainwater harvesting mandatory for new buildings and houses as part of efforts to conserve water and overcome its shortage, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. Briefing presspersons after the Cabinet meeting here on Wednesday, Mr. Chandy said a Cabinet subcommittee comprising Water Resources Minister P.J. Joseph, Panchayats and Social Welfare Minister M.K. Muneeer, and Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali had been set up to frame rules in this regard. Later, rainwater harvesting would be made mandatory for old buildings.

Sparing a thought for traffic congestion against the backdrop of a spurt in the vehicular population, the Haryana government has allowed stilt parking for plots measuring six marlas and above.

While the stilt parking would be allowed for all licensed colonies and plots granted changed of land use (CLU), it would not be allowed for farmhouses, official sources said.

SmartCity Kochi has failed to secure environment clearance within 45 days as declared by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on January 31. The company has not even filed a fresh application for environment clearance.
