BHUBANESWAR: Sharply reacting to the objections raised by the N C Saxena Committee to the proposal to allow bauxite mining by the Vedanta Aluminium Limited (VAL) in the Niyamgiri hills, the State Government on Tuesday asserted that all decisions have been taken as per the Supreme Court directive.

The Ad Hoc Committee (ADC) has recommended that the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) should conduct a fact finding study of the illegal mining activities, if any, and also investigate and study the modalities of the illegal mechanism.
BHUBANESWAR: Chided by the Empowered Committee of the Supreme Court, the Government seems to have woken up to the large-scale loot and worked out some tough measures to check illegal mining in the State. Enforcement squads will now frequent mine areas while a coordination committee will keep a watch on extraction and transportation of minerals.
