The government will import 300 CNG-run buses to operate them on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway with a view to reducing air pollution, State Minister for Environment and Forests Dr Hasan Mahmud said at a workshop in the city yesterday.
He said the government has emphasised mass transportation system to reduce traffic congestion as well as pollution in the country.

ISLAMABAD: The government has initiated a project to promote public transportation including providing 10,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses in major cities across the country to tackle the air quality issue.
Though the occupancy rate of the new Tata low-floor buses is more than 100 per cent, the company is yet to fix the reoccurring snags. Minor breakdowns have not stopped ever since the buses started plying on city roads.
The Delhi government assured the High Court on Friday that it was complying with the court directives to phase out Blueline buses and install global positioning systems (GPS) in nearly 7,500 DTC buses running in the Capital.
The government counsel said GPS will be installed in nearly 1,000 buses every month.
