COASTAL Action Network, an umbrella organisation of 45 different coastal and fishermen-related groups in the State, announced that they are boycotting a proposed public consultation meet by the ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) to be held in the city on Wednesday to gather opinion on amendments required in the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Notification of 1991.

The committee set up to review the Coastal Management Zone (CMZ) notification has recommended the proposed law be allowed to lapse. The panel chaired by scientist M S Swaminathan suggested the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notification of 1991 be strengthened instead. Mumbai The Union Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) has announced its plan to hold 10 public consultations in Mumbai, Goa, Cochin, Chennai, Bhubaneshwar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal to gather public opinion on amendments required in the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Notification of 1991.

KOCHI: As part of framing new rules to save the 7,517-km coastline, the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has decided to meet the fishermen community in Kerala.

Stakeholders in the State, including the fisher-folks, had strongly opposed the recently lapsed Coastal Management Zone draft notification.

MUMBAI: The state plans to write to the Centre, asking for a separate set of rules for Mumbai when it amends the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms, which prohibits construction close to the coastline. The draft notification of the coastal management zone (CMZ) lapsed on July 22.
