THE Coalition of Chennaiites for Cycling (CCC), an initiative of INODA (Indian Organization for Development Action), an NGO working for public interest issues, has chalked out various plans to make the city bicycle friendly.

NEW DELHI: Taking forward the unique initiative of promoting bicycles as a green, healthy and energy-efficient transport and at the same time helping people learn about Delhi's rich heritage, the Delhi Cycling Club organised its third "Heritage Bicycle Ride' in the Capital on Sunday with support from the Initiative for Transportation and Development Programmes.

A "Heritage Bicycle Ride' was organised here on Saturday to promote bicycle as eco-friendly and energy efficient transport in the national capital.

Over 100 participants representing diverse professions took part in the 12 km ride, organisers said.

The two-hour long guided journey began from the Humayun Tomb at 7.30 am passed through several other historical monuments.

The Initiative for Transportation and Development Programmes and Delhi Cycling Club organised the ride.

Under the Chief Minister's Asom Bikash Yojana, under which bicycles have been provided to the girl students of Class VIII and IX from the BPL families, the Minister for Irrigation, Fishery and Soil Conservation Nurjamal Sarker ceremoniously distributed 288 bicycles free of cost to different girl students, in the first phase from various educational institutions under Biswanath subdivision at a colourful function held at the Ekadash Smriti Bhawan in Biswanath Chariali recently.
