The National Green Tribunal (NGT) Thursday held the Art of Living Foundation (AoL) responsible for damaging the Yamuna floodplains when it organised a three-day cultural festival in March last year

Judgement of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Manoj Misra & Others Vs Art of Living International Center & Others dated 07/12/2017 regarding World Culture Festival Celebration on Yamuna flood plain. This has led to illegal and unauthorized dumping and construction in the active flood plains of river Yamuna in the NCT of Delhi which was taking place over some 25 hectares upstream of DND Flyway. The flood plains which were excellent natural wetlands as recently as September 2015 have been cleared and levelled by the Art of Living International Center.

The NGT had slammed the DDA for casting aspersions on the findings of its expert committee on the damage caused to the Yamuna floodplains due to this cultural event.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Rear Admiral AP Revi IN (Retd.) Vs. Delhi Jal Board & Others dated 26/10/2017 regarding use of fresh water for gardening purpose in Vasant Kunj area of Delhi. NGT passes direction that DDA/MCD shall ensure that DJB shall supply treated sewage water for gardening at the fixed rate which will be the primary responsibility of the public authority. The residents, DDA/MCD and DJB are prohibited to use fresh water for gardening purpose.

Grants last opportunity to submit report within one week

The green panel had directed the Delhi government and other authorities to submit a status report on the condition of river Yamuna after the immersion of idols.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Manoj Mishra Vs. Union of India & Others dated 04/10/2017 regarding pollution of river Yamuna. The Counsel appearing for NCT Delhi submits that the cleaning process of the banks of river Yamuna is in progress. The idols which were immersed into the water are being removed and the authorities including Corporation will carry them to the appropriate sites.

The NGT also issued notice to the NHAI to show cause why it has not started lifting segregated waste despite specific directions from the tribunal.
