This study deals with the effects of fireworks on the air quality over the major cities of India during the festival of light known as “Diwali”. The effects of firecrackers during the festival was assessed from the ambient concentrations of various air pollutants such as sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and particulate matter (PM) with diameter less than 10 µm.
The notification on parking norms in Vashi is being put into effect now, over a month after it was issued by former DCP (traffic) Vijay Patil on August 2.

Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) chairman Vaman Acharya on Thursday said the KSPCB is mulling over filing criminal cases against those municipalities that are unable to manage their waste properly.
Pollution in Delhi is likely to worsen during the weekend with the day temperature expected to fall by 2-5 degree Celsius and calm winds, thus hampering dispersion of suspended pollutants.

Pune: Firecracker traders may have reported a drop in sales this Diwali, but the city still had a deafening blast on Sunday evening, with noise levels breaching the permissible barrier of 55 decibels (dB) in many areas, and also crossing last year’s high. The 10 pm deadline for bursting crackers was also conveniently ignored in most areas.
Data Collected By Pollution Control Board Shows Greater Awareness Among People About Harmful Effects Of Crackers
Mumbai: The city seems to have kept its decibel levels and air pollution low this year. Data released by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) shows that the concentration of the Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter (RSPM) levels on Diwali day was about 175 ug/m3, lower than even the 2010 reading of 182.
Lucknow: As Lucknowites lighted up fire crackers of nearly Rs 35 crores this year, it resulted in an increase of air pollution by over 100% and noise pollution upto 37.35% in several areas of the city.
