The Central Ministry of Environment and Forest has proposed a Bill for the conservation and regulation of wetlands in India.

Aimed at preserving the rich and varied biodiversity resources of the country and making sustainable use of its components, the proposal for a National Biodiversity Action Plan is all set to be approved by the Government on Thursday.

The initiatives taken, both by Wal-Mart and Progressive Bag Affiliates need to be replicated across the world, including India. Imposing a ban on plastic bags as being advocated by some critics is not the solution

Senior Standing Counsel, UT Administration, Advocate Anupam Gupta has cleared all legal doubts with regard to banning plastic and polythene carry bags in Chandigarh.

In his detailed legal opinion, Gupta has strongly advocated a complete ban on all shapes and sizes of plastic and polythene carry bags, relying upon the Plastic Manufacture Sale and Usage Rules, 1999, notified by the Central government under the Environment Protection Act, 1986.
