THE city witnessed a noisier, but cleaner Diwali this year.

Real Time Continuous Ambient Noise Monitoring has been conducted at 35 locations in seven cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Bangalore and Hyderabad) since 2011. Ambient Noise Level Trend in these seven cities on the occasion of Deepawali 23/10/2014, 03/11/2013, 13/11/2012 and 26/10/2011 along with data are presented in this statistics. 14 locations have decreasing trend or no change in trend especially in Banglore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Marginal variation is observed at 21 locations in Delhi, Kolkata and Lucknow in comparison to Deepawali, 2013.

Deepawali, the festival of lights is also synonyms as festival of crackers.

The noise levels in the core area of the city has increased manifold in the past decade.
