Coimbatore: Forests provided food and water for the human beings and it was essential that they be protected for the well being of future generations too, said V.T.

The Forest Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues told Goa Assembly on Wednesday that he will move an amendment to the Tree Preservation Act, to enhance penalty and fine imposed under the Act.
The forest minister made the statement during Question Hour on Wednesday upon suggestion from MLAs who pointed out that minimal fine imposed as per provision in the Act, is no deterrent to the violators.
