JAMMU, Minister of Forests, Environment, Ecology and Remote Sensing, Mian Altaf Ahmad today said that protection of forest wealth is the prime duty of every individual, as the forests are important for maintaining ecological balance and safe and secure environment.

The Forest Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues told Goa Assembly on Wednesday that he will move an amendment to the Tree Preservation Act, to enhance penalty and fine imposed under the Act.
The forest minister made the statement during Question Hour on Wednesday upon suggestion from MLAs who pointed out that minimal fine imposed as per provision in the Act, is no deterrent to the violators.
