Continuing its tough stance against illegal mining in Karnataka the Supreme Court on Friday ordered fresh demarcation of ninety-nine mining leases and suspended the operation by one company after finding that more than 1,081 hectares of precious forests had been eaten up by them over the years.

Forest land worth thousands of crores of rupees is encroached upon in the city and Ranga Reddy districts. The forest department has found that 4,648.43 hectares of land in key areas like Dulapally, Medpally, Shamirpet and Ibrahimpatnam have been encroached. The forest department is fighting the cases in various courts to evict the encroachers.

Attappady tribes accuse department of helping windmill companies
PALAKKAD: Tribal people have alleged that the Forest Department has been encroaching upon their land at Kottathara in Attappady, where some windmill companies had earlier allegedly tried to usurp their property.
