NEW DELHI: Alleviating poverty is imperative and all efforts, resources and technologies should be utilised in that direction, with education, health and social welfare measures being the instruments of empowerment of the poor and women, said President Pratibha Patil inaugurating the new campus of TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) University at Vasant Kunj here on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: Spread over two acres, the 80,000 sq. ft. campus of TERI University at Vasant Kunj here, which will be inaugurated by President Pratibha Patil on Thursday, has emerged as a template for energy efficiency and conservation.

The University, which is the first of its kind dedicated to the study of environment, energy and natural sciences, will consume only 60 per cent of the energy that a building of its dimensions uses.

On the fifth-day of the seminar on Sustainable Strategies for Green Architecture held in the Energy Centre of MANIT on Friday, the session begun with a lecture from Lovleen Garg, who is a senior manager of the Navi Mumbai SEZ project.

An expert in the field of environmental planning, Garg concentrated on policies for green architecture, like green credits. He discussed sustainable planning of cities in the modern context, covering Indian cities like Gwalior and Jabalpur.

He mentioned the energy cycle and issues such as global warming.

Pune, September 05 Kumar Sublime, a project by Kumar Builders at Kondhwa, received the prestigious five-star eco-housing rating certificate from Municipal Commissioner at a function held recently. Arun Nigvekar and Prashant were among those presenton the occasion.
The certification has been initiated for the first time in the city. For the 5 star eco housing rating, the minimum criteria is 800 points. This is an interim certification till the completion of the project, said a press release.
