Guwahati , March 31: Assam on Wednesday became the first state in the country that has granted the right to health and well being to its citizen through a landmark Assam Public Health Bill, 2010.
The bill which was passed by Assam Assembly on Wednesday makes it mandatory for all new development projects to carry out a health impact assessment.
The varied disciplines involved with public health, their divergent frameworks result in different agendas. The public-private partnerships are suggestive of collusion between the stakeholders and actors with the public health agenda hijacked by powerful private players.
Since matters of health are substantially influenced by policies and programmes followed in other sectors, all the Ministries of government must play an active role in advancing health goals.

Gandhinagar: State health minister Jaynarayan Vyas has clarified that the draft Gujarat Public Health Act is "not a final document" and that it has been put on the web for triggering a public, debate, "making tie entire process most transparent". Vyas made the statement in view of wide-scale protests by doctors against the draft Act, insisting, "It is premature at this juncture to agitate."
