New Delhi: The state transport department, on Wednesday, granted an extension of one month to owners of small trucks registered in the capital to convert their vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). The government had come out with a notification ordering the conversion in January this year and the last date for conversion was September 30.

The High Court on Monday has refused to lift the ban on vehicular movement during night within Bandipur national park, NH-67 (Bandipur- Mudhumalai) and NH-212, (Bandipur- Wyanad ) stretch.

In the backdrop of ban on iron ore laden lorries, Iron Ore Lorry Owners Association has filed a writ in High Court which will come up for hearing on August 4, said RTO H N Ramesh.

Despite the district administration banning the movement of iron ore laden lorries on National Highway 48 in Dakshina Kannada, they have continued to enter the district.

Quepem MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar demanded that the mine-owners pay a better rate to the truck owners transporting their ore.

"Ban the movement of all iron ore trucks on National Highways in the district immediately, till the end of September," Home Minister Dr V S Acharya directed the district administration at an official review meeting.
