An amount of Rs 2 crore 73 lakh has been allotted to ensure employment of 100-days at 18 tehsils of eight drought affected districts under National Rural Employment Guarantee Mission.

The question of where to dispose the toxic waste lying at the defunct Union Carbide factory in Bhopal has come to haunt the government again. Yielding to public pressure, the government has finally decided not to dump the remaining 347 tonnes of waste at a disposal facility in Pithampur near Indore.
There has been a drastic decline in the quantity of waste generated by the large, medium and small industrial units in the State in the past one year. As compared to the year 2008-09, the industrial waste has shown a decline of around 54,000 mt tonne in the year 2009-10. Interestingly, the decline is attributed to closure of existing industries rather than regulatory measures.
The work of distributing compensation among the farmers of Indore district against crop loss due to cold wave will begin from Tuesday after completion of survey, which will be completed on Monday. Rs 20 crore compensation is expected to be distributed in the district.
Over 19,000 people have tested positive for the deadly human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in Madhya Pradesh in the last six years, sources said on Sunday.
An official of the Madhya Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (MPSACS) said, "Samples of 8,90,984 suspected persons were tested for HIV in the State between years 2005 and 2010, and of them 19,362 had AIDS."
