Some 14 deaths from swine flu (H1N1) have been reported so far throughout the country, said National Institute of Health (NIH) Executive Director Dr Bargees Mazhar Qazi on Wednesday.

Briefing media persons on current swine flu situation, the ED said of the total 650 suspected cases, 168 were reported H1N1 positive.

The district administration has finally given approval to upgrade the health infrastructure in rural Islamabad and increase the emoluments and incentives for the medical staff working in the health centres and units of the rural areas.

The Islamabad administration has planned to construct 23 mini-dams, 25 retaining walls, 11 green houses, three veterinary hospitals, 15 fish ponds and 100 water courses during the current fiscal year.

The agricultural extension services department has also planned to train 6,300 farmers on modern lines during the current fiscal year to improve the agricultural output in the federal capital.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday handed over the operational command of Urban Search and Rescue Team to Capital Development Authority (CDA) in a bid to equip the civic body with modern resources of disaster management.
