LUCKNOW: Throwing garbage in public places may land you in trouble, if the department of urban development has its way. The department is mulling the proposal to put in place a provision in the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Act, 1959, whereby littering in public places would be deemed to be a penal offence inviting fine.

The Urban development ministry will look into the alleged irregularities in executing work under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).

New Delhi: As part of its wishlist for the Budget, the urban development ministry has sought excise duty waiver for buses purchased by the state governments under the stimulus package. On-road prices of these buses range from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 70 lakh. The excise duty on buses is 8% now.

After more than a month, five out of 14 low-floor buses were handed over to the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) today. These 14 buses arrived at Chandigarh on December 28 last year.

According to officials, these buses are expected to start operations within a week. Meanwhile, all the 60 low-floor non-AC Tata buses have arrived at the company
