The Matsya Keralam project in the state is aimed at increasing the annual production of freshwater fish in the state to 2 lakh tones per year from the present 75,000 tones, said Fisheries Minister S Sarma.

He was speaking after the inauguration of the second stage of Matsya Keralam project in the district by releasing fingerlings at Ayyankulam in Chazhoor on Monday.

KOCHI: After ivory, ganja and sandalwood, the smugglers are now madly after King Cobra and other venomous snakes in the forests as 10 ml venom of a King Cobra would fetch crores of rupees in the international black market.

The smuggling of snake venom had come to light after the recent seizure of 200 ml of King Cobra venom at Kanjikode, near Palakkad.

KOCHI: With only one more hurdle before the Kochi Metro Rail project, the authorities of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the implementing agency for the project, has decided to prepare a detailed execution plan for the project.

A meeting convened by DMRC Chairman E Sreedharan in Kochi on Wednesday asked the officials to start collection of details for the same.

Kochi: Residents in the Kochi municipal corporation area of Ernakulam district risk paying out a fine of Rs 10,000 if they are caught throwing garbage on the street.
The new law came into effect on Tuesday after the district administration held detailed discussions with various departments including the police and the municipal corporation of Kochi.
