Rain continued to pummel several parts of the State, claiming two lives and flooding houses and farmlands on Monday.

In the last three days, the coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada have recorded an average rainfall of 267 mm against the average rainfall of 108.9 mm recorded in the past 40 years, said the officers of the Revenue Department.

Tropical storm Dora, the fourth named storm of the Pacific hurricane season, formed off the coast of Central America Monday threatening to dump heavy rains on the coffee and sugar growing region.

Three persons died and 10 went missing in a landslide at Purtimkanda VDC, Rukum, on Thursday night.

Police said Amrita Gharti (16), Sabina Gharti (9) and Ramesh Gharti (4) of Bhala Takuri were killed in the landslip. The family members of Dhan Singh Gharti went missing in the incident.

Landslides triggered by continuous rain in Rukum and Nuwakot districts killed 16 people, including seven minors, on Thursday night.

Thirteen people were perished in separate landslides that took place at Purtimkada VDC. Ten people of a same family were killed when a house came under the landslide at Purtimkada VDC-3.

An eight-year-old girl was washed away as she tried to cross an overflowing nullah on her way to school in Tilwari Bur village of Kalsi near here while it was pouring heavily on Friday, the police said.
